Mud Vacation

I remember when I was a very young child living in northern Minnesota we had one week of "Mud Vacation" at about this time of the year. I believe it is now called "Spring Break" or "Easter Vacation". Where we lived many of the roads leading back to resorts and lake homes were gravel not paved, making it hard for the school bus to get back on these roads to pick up kids. When spring would start arriving and the ground would start thawing/snow melting the roads became a muddy/rutty mess, so that's when we had our spring vacation from school.

We finally have had nice warm weather this week, after Milwaukee got 11+" of snow Monday - lake effect - I got none here. The weather has been pleasant (40's to 50's the last few days), especially after what seems like a long snowy and cold winter. It's suppose to get in the 20's again in a couple days but it sure is enjoyable now.

When the dogs and I walked to the mailbox today most of the snow and ice - mostly ice - had finally melted on the driveway leaving 'mud'. That's what reminded me of "Mud Vacation".

Ruts in the driveway, staying to the side trying to avoid ruts in the middle of the driveway. Weeds will cover these in time.

Notice the dogs paw prints in the mud. I had to wipe off their feet/legs/belly before I let them in the house.
My feet, not too bad considering!

After I stepped away, this is what I left behind

This is just a small bit of mud compared to what the dogs had on them. I didn't think to take a pix until after I wiped them down.
